The cost for this isn’t as intimidating as a new washer or refrigerator, but spending the money (and taking the time) to weather proof your house can save you a lot where it counts when it comes to electric and gas bills. Inexpensive insulation can shave significant amounts off of monthly costs. Try these simple fixes:
- insulate your water heater
- insulate the pipe from the water heater to the wall
- recaulk around windows
- make sure no gaps appear around doors, use the insulation strips around them
- use plastic insulation over large windows during the winter
